Independently owned by Vernon and Mary Lynn Watson signed on the air in June 1992 and was the first African American owned TV Station on the Gulf Coast and the first “WB” (Warner Bros.) Television Network affiliate in the market. WBQP has been broadcasting on VHF Channel 12 for the past 30 years in the greater Pensacola area. In 2022, WBQP leased a channel on a full power television station channel 53.4 on WPAN TV 53 to get full market coverage. WBQP is now a full market TV station and covers twelve counties in Alabama and Florida.

WBQP TV broadcast on both VHF Channel 12 and UHF Channel 53.4. WBQP TV is now a full market station serving twelve counties in the Mobile/Pensacola/Fort Walton Beach DMA. The Mobile/Pensacola/ Fort Walton Beach is 57th largest market in the country. WBQP broadcast ten sub-channels on VHF WBQP TV Channel 12. In addition to the above, WBQP is now broadcasting on UHF TV Channel 53.4. WBQP is also broadcasting digital content online. WBQP has Apps in the Google and IOS App stores for handheld devices. WBQP is broadcasting “live” online on internet (IPTV) TV and on its website at wbqptv.com or wbqp.com. WBQP is also on most popular streaming platforms such ROKU, AMAZON FIRE TV, APPLE TV, etc. WBQP has applications pending for major TV Brands Apps for LG, Samsung, Sony, Vizio and TLC. WBQP is on all popular Social Media sites such as: YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, etc.

WBQP main programming source is “The Grio Network” which was formerly Light TV. The programming is a variety of News, Opinions, Entertainment and Video Content geared toward African Americans. In addition to a variety of local talk and religious programming geared toward the local community.

The station serves the Gulf Coast of Florida including Mobile, Alabama, Pensacola, Fort Walton Beach, and Destin, as well as the Greater Pensacola area including Milton, Gulf Breeze, Navarre, Foley, Brewton, etc. WBQP serves twelve counties in the DMA: Mobile, Baldwin, Escambia, Washington, Chatom, Clarkes, Monroe, Conecuh Counties in Alabama; and Escambia, Santa Rosa, Okaloosa, and Walton Counties in Florida. Serving approximately 500,000 households over-the-air (non-cable) on VHF channel 12 and UHF channel 53.4.

WBQP TV-12 is affiliated with several independent TV networks and has an excellent lineup of general and local programming. It has something for everybody, ranging from kid programming to adult programming. The station offers eight digital channels.
