George Smith-past president of local chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha (Epsilon Mu Lambda) – former Territory manager for Georgia Pacific/ Bluelinx for 48 yrs. Host: Pueschel Schneier, Manager and Executive Producer, The Thornton Review Show.
George Smith was raised in Mobile, Alabama. George graduated in 1971 as a member of Murphy High School’s first fully integrated graduating class. In 1972, George was a founding member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, at the University of South Alabama, which was the first African American fraternity in Alabama. George earned his bachelor’s degree in history in 1975 and was selected for Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges. George served as both a Senator and Treasurer in the Student Government Association and was a leading member of the Black Student Union. He earned his master’s in communication from the University of West Florida in 1982.
George began his professional career as a Territory Manager with Georgia‑Pacific in 1975. Throughout his career, he received more than thirty sales awards.
Throughout the years, George has remained active in community service and leadership. He has served as a Board Member for the Visiting Nurses Association at Baptist Hospital, Scenic Heights Elementary School Advisory Board, President of Alpha Phi Alpha in Pensacola, as a Trustee for Mount Canaan Missionary Baptist Church, as the church’s Financial Director, and has contributed to numerous committees throughout Pensacola. George is happily married with four adult daughters and nine grandchildren.
